James J. Wegmann

Mr. Wegmann originally hails from Texas. Upon graduation from Plano Senior High in 1981, Mr. Wegmann enrolled at the University of Texas and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science. Following graduation, Mr. Wegmann was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and reported to The Basic School (TBS) for Officers in Quantico, Virginia. Following TBS, Mr. Wegmann reported to Flight Training in Pensacola, Florida were he earned his wings as a Naval Flight Officer and thereafter reported to NAS Whidbey Island, Washington for training as a Bombadier Navigator (BN) aboard the Gruman A6E Intruder.

After completing Intruder training, Mr. Wegmann was assigned to VMA(AW)-121, the Green Knights. During his tenure as an Intruder BN, Mr. Wegmann completed a carrier tour with Carrier Air Wing-2 aboard the USS Ranger and was later a member of VMA(AW)-242, the Bats. During his five years as an Intruder BN, Mr. Wegmann obtained his Mission Commander rating, won the prestigious Norden Bomb Sight Pickle Barrel Award, obtained a secondary Military Occupation Specialty of Aviation Maintenance Officer and earned his call sign “Mongo”. After much consultation with his family and friends, Mr. Wegmann applied for and was accepted into the Marine Corps Funded Law Program.

Mr. Wegmann reported to Oklahoma City University School of Law for three years and upon completion, graduated Magna Cum Laude with American Jurisprudence Awards in Family Law, Trial Advocacy, Tax Law, and Constitutional Law. Mr. Wegmann also earned acceptance into the Order of Barristers and the Legal Academic Fraternity, Phi Delta Phi. After graduation, Mr. Wegmann was assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. While at the Depot, Mr. Wegmann served in a variety of billets to include Chief Legal Assistance Officer, Senior Defense Counsel, Special Assistant US Attorney and Director of the Tax Center. During his term as Chief Legal Assistance Officer, the Law Center at Parris Island received the American Bar Association’s Military Legal Assistance Office of the Year Award.

Mr. Wegmann resigned his commission in the Marine Corps and joined Mr. Weidner in the Beaufort law practice of Weidner & Wegmann, LLC. Weidner and Wegmann, LLC merged in 2009 with the Law Office of J. Thomas Mikell and Frampton L. Harper, II to form the Law Offices of Mikell, Weidner, Wegmann & Harper, LLC. Mr. Wegmann is admitted to practice in the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, State & Federal Courts of South Carolina, State Courts of Texas and is a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the Palmetto Land Title Association. Mr. Wegmann also holds a designation as a Certified Family Law Mediator in South Carolina.

The focus of Mr. Wegmanns practice entails the representation of clients in all aspects of real property transactions and litigation. Mr. Wegmann has volunteered as Counsel for the Greater Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce for the last eight years.
